About Jacquelyn
My Story
My journey with Holistic Wellness began simply because I was not able to find health within the current medical system. So, I empowered myself and became my own medic, so to speak. Now, I share these hard-won tools with others.
In the late 1990's I immersed myself in nutrition, trying to find relief from what doctors called Irritable Bowl Syndrome. In actuality, my body simply didn't digest dairy very well.
While my digestion improved, I still had chronic pain from a crushed vertebrae. Walking hurt. Luckily, I discovered the healing effects of yoga, and it transformed more than just my back! I began studying with Yogarupa Rod Stryker of Parayoga who introduced me to the deeper aspects of the practice, and in 2005, I went to live and work at the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Sciences - one of the premiere wellness centers in America.
After completing my year-long immersion, and wanting to share this holistic approach to diet, nutrition, and lifestyle, I obtained my Community Consultation Certification through the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda. This led me deeper into the world of plants which became my new passion. The following year, I apprenticed at the Blue Ridge School of Herbalism and became a certified herbalist. Plants empowered me at a whole new level and I continue to learn about their profound healing qualities - both as herbal preparations and as flower essences. It was the world of plants that introduced me to the Wise Woman Tradition, which today along with yoga, has become a pillar of my practice. The Wise Woman Tradition of health is based on an inclusive, both/and approach of wholeness instead of the either/or paradigm of needing to be fixed. It is earth and body centered and includes radical self-care. I believe this tradition offers a needed balance in the dis-empowered culture of healthcare today - both mainstream health care and many "alternative" approaches.
Today, I round out my practice as a certified personal trainer and an ordained Minister, all-the-while continuing to delve deeper into the earth-based practices of health and wellness. Most days, you'll find me engaging one of these passions - or hanging out in the woods.
My goal is to empower clients to find their own wellness. I believe healthcare reform starts at home...with each of us taking control of our health. We have the tools we need within us, it is simply a matter of being taught what they are. This is my gift. This is what I share.
