Advanced Yoga Program
Starts October 2016
The Advanced Yoga Sadhana Program is wise progression through yoga, starting with the tools of Ayurveda and Hatha Yoga, which allow us to see where we are, and finishing with the tools of Classical Yoga and Tantra, which take us to the final goal.
The final goal is often forgotten in our culture. Are we focused on getting a fit body, flexible hamstrings or achieve handstands in the middle of the room? These may be possible side effects of practice, but they are not the purpose of it.
According to the ancient texts, the goal of yoga is to experience the authentic Self -- the one free of doubt, fear, conditioning and limitations -- and be sustained in that experience. This is big S self we are talking about. The deepest, core, most authentic Self who is yearning to live fully in this world.
These ancient wisdoms -- the ones that help navigate the dark-times as well as connect us to our brilliant light -- is the foundation of the Advanced Yoga Sadhana course. It is based on the yoga philosophies that are grounded in living a fulfilled, free and embodied life.
These classes are not about giving a good work out or helping someone achieve an externally prescribed form. They are about empowering individuals to connect to their own authentic integrity, from the inside out. It has been 10 years in the making, and I'm thrilled to share it with this community. Deepen your practice! Go beyond asana into the ancient wisdoms of Yoga, Ayurveda and Tantra, providing practical tools & techniques for modern, daily living. Using a prescriptive approach to asana, pranayama, meditation and the more subtle techniques of these systems, we’ll gain access to greater freedom, fulfillment and balance.

This course will include the practice and refinement of asana, but focuses more on exploring the prescriptive nature of pranayama (breath), meditation, mantra, kriya (loosely translated as visualization),, sankalpa shakti (charged intention), and self inquiry.

I) Foundational Sun Practices: Engaging our Energy
VINYASA KRAMA
Explore The Wise Progression of Yoga starting with Sun Practices based on Hatha yoga & Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga. We will learn to identify Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) & Gunas (Sattwa, Rajas, Tamas). With this knowledge we will learn to balance each through asana, pranayama and lifestyle .
PRANA VAYUS
Discover the five ways energy moves in the body & learn how to elegantly balance each through posture, breath, visualization and meditation. Use this understanding prescriptively in your own life to balance anxiety, depression, insomnia or digestive disorders; or to create classes in harmony with the seasons.
VITAL ESSENCES
Learn how work with the three vital essences fundamental for a life of balance and vitality. Yoga understands that Prana, Tejas & Ojas - similar to the concepts in Chinese medicine of Qi, Shen & Jing – provide the fuel of nourishment, the light of transformation, and the power of expansion on our journey of evolution. Learn the techniques to balance and build each so you can move with the your unique needs in harmony with the cycles of the year and the seasons of life.
II) Grounding Moon Practices: Stilling the Mind to Discover your True Self
NOURISHING THE FIVE SUBTLE BODIES
An experiential exploration of each layer of your being -- from the most manifest to the most subtle. We will discuss the five Koshas, or Sheaths, and explore practices that help us tune into the body, breath or energetic body, mental body, intuitive body and bliss body. Gain a whole new understanding of body, mind, spirit connection.
UNCOVERING THE DEEPER SELF
To experience the Self, we must expand past the limitations of the personality. This requires steadiness & ease, learning to make the mind your own best friend, and directing and sustaining our attention inward. This workshop delves into the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras, looking at the mild, medium and intense paths that help us understand our nature and overcome our suffering. With an emphasis ViYoga, we will take a wise progression into meditation – that moves from breath practices to kriyas to spontaneous meditation with effortless and ease. The end result is the ability to discover your inner luminosity and truth.
III) Transformational Fire Practice : Building Power, Transcending Limitations & Sustaining Positive Change
INNER RADIANCE: Through Tantra
This class focuses on SamYoga, were we will merging with our inner radiance. An entirely Tantric approach we will igniter our inner fire (agni) which is the agent for awakening our clear perception, power and purpose. We will also explore Kundalini, the dormant energy that is awakened through yoga, and how to integrating its safely.
TANTRA YOGA: Uncovering your Purpose & Desires
In this last session we'll discover, the Four Desires of our Life: Dharma (meaning/purpose), Artha (the means), Kama (pleasure), Moksha (freedom). We'll gain clarity about our purpose for this life and discover ancient tools that help us weed out the obstacles that get in the way of our extraordinary life. We will be using Rod Stryker's, Four Desires as our workbook.
TANTRA YOGA: Internal & External Practices
Date TBD (For full-time students only)
In addition to being a follow up to the 4 Desires, we will unlock esoteric fire practices - internal fire puja and external fire homa.
